The man who murdered mother-of-three Glenda Hoskins has died in prison weeks after it was revealed he was being considered for release on humanitarian grounds.
Victor Farrant, who also attempted to murder another woman by hitting her in the head with wine bottles, suffered from a long-standing health problem, the Justice Department said.
The 74-year-old’s cause of death has not been confirmed, but he was believed to be suffering from cancer.
He was told he would never be released from prison when he was jailed for murder and attempted murder in 1998.
Ms Hoskins’ children Iain, Katie and David are believed to have fought to keep Farrant in prison after probation officials said in February his release was being considered for health reasons.
